About

The primary purpose of the Library eResources Accessibility Project (LEAP) is to assist Ontario college
libraries in upholding accessibility best practices and becoming compliant with the requirements of the
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)’s January 1, 2020 deadline for ensuring the
accessibility of electronic resources (IASR, 2011, s. 18(3)).
Over the past several years, the LEAP Project Team have completed research identifying accessibility
standards and established specific criteria required according to best practices. This work formed the
basis of our recommendation to build a self-audit tool with detailed instructional content that walks users
through the step by step process of evaluating the accessibility of eresources. The LEAP Tool facilitates
the assessment process, and houses and provides shared access to evaluations and accessibility
reports.
Along with the development and launch of the LEAP Tool, the LEAP Project Team will be recommending
a process for colleges to best integrate the evaluation process into their local workflows; to pool our
resources and share completed evaluations with each other; and to build awareness and capacity among
college library staff regarding accessibility.
